# Sam Allardyce has had some choice words to say about West Ham’s transfer business

Former West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has praised the club for their decision not to sign former QPR midfielder Joey Barton this summer.

After not having his contract renewed at the end of last season, Allardyce is still without work but is not shying away from making bold comments in the media.

The 60-year-old says West Ham were right to snub Joey Barton after fan protest on Social Media following reports that the former England international was set to sign on a free transfer.

“*I don’t think you need the added pressure if the fans aren’t happy with a player, even as good a player as Joey Barton,*” Allardyce told *[TalkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/exclusive-west-ham-made-right-decision-listen-fans-and-not-sign-joey-barton-claims-sam?)*.

“*I had it when El Hadji Diouf trained with us when I first got there and there was a big reaction against him. You get enough pressure as it is as manager without adding to it yourself.*

“*So it’s probably the right decision in the end, as much as I am disappointed for Joey. We all know he’s got the ability to play in the Premier league, he’s proven that over the years.*”

The 32-year-old had undergone a medical with West Ham ahead of signing a two-year, pay-as-you-play deal to add depth to our midfield.

Allardyce is no stranger to fan outcry following his tenure at the club. Fans on Social Media as well at games were often voicing their displeasure over his tenure at the club, and you must think that their disliking of Allardyce played a part in his departure from Upton Park.

West Ham are really struggling to find a central midfielder to add to their squad following Barton’s rejection. They still hope to sign Alex Song from Barcelona, but no progress has been made in regards to a permanent transfer.
