# Payet Reveals Why He Chose West Ham

[The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-hams-dimitri-payet-reveals-6219003) today explained how West Ham’s new dynamic playmaker made the journey to East London thanks to a former teammate and ex-Hammer.

Frenchman, Dimitri Payet, explained how meeting Joe Cole at former club, Lille, played a vital role in persuading him to join the East London side. After signing for £10.7 million last month, he told the newspaper “*Joe Cole motivated me to sign for West Ham.*”

And in a moment sure to capture claret and blue hearts, Payet expressed his desire “*to go out and give 100 per cent if I want to go into the same category as people like Joe Cole and Paolo Di Canio.*”

The exciting midfielder grabbed an assist on his debut at Arsenal on Sunday but confessed he did not feel the club’s exit from the Europa League would have a negative impact on their season.

“*The real question is whether the Europa League was really of use to us this season… I don’t think so.*”
