# Henry Wanted On Loan

West Ham defender Doneil Henry is being looked at by Blackburn Rovers to possibly return on loan next season.

The Canadian international centre-back, signed for £1.3m in January from Cypriot side Apollon Limassol, has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Hammers, and that doesn’t look like changing any time soon.

Former manager Sam Allardyce made the call to sign Henry off the back of a recommendation from former Premier League defender Ryan Nelson, who was managing FC Toronto, who Henry was on loan with at the time, having started his career there before his move to Cyprus.

West Ham have four senior centre-back’s ahead of the 22-year-old in the pecking order, not to mention rising stars Reece Oxford and Reece Burke, as well as latest signing George Dobson are now all competing to be next in line should injuries strike.

In March last season, the Hammers decided to send Henry out on a short-term loan to Championship side Blackburn Rovers in order to get some minutes under his belt. Despite only playing three appearances, he really impressed, [according to Rovers fan Gary Smale](https://readwestham.com/2015/03/13/loan-watch-west-ham-defender-doneil-henry-impressing-at-blackburn-rovers-championship/), who we spoke with about his time at the club.

Doneil’s loan was cut short after his season was ended by a hamstring injury, but he’s back and raring to go, and has caught the eye during West Ham’s pre-season campaign.

Now, Rovers manager Gary Bowyer is keen to bring the defender back to Ewood Park next season.

“*We’re delighted Doneil’s back playing.*” he’s quoted as saying in the [Lancashire Telegraph.](https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/13502468.Captain_Grant_Hanley_keen_for_striker_Jordan_Rhodes_to_remain_at_Blackburn_Rovers/?ref=rss)

“*He’s a fantastic player who has made a great recovery, we’re really pleased for him and we’ll just continue to monitor his progress on that.*”
