# Ligue 1 Midfielder Skips Training As He Nears West Ham Move

West Ham are believed to be closing in on their tenth summer signing in the form of SC Caen midfielder N’Golo Kanté.

French source [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/N-golo-kante-caen-et-maintenant-west-ham/577423) believe West Ham are in talks with the Ligue 1 side over a transfer for the defensive midfielder after talks with Marseille broke down last week, and are now expecting an offer from the Hammers in the next few days.

Leicester are also said to be keen on the 24-year-old, who today skipped training after SM Caen manager Patrice Garande confirmed at a press conference that they were in talks with a Premier League side over his transfer.

This comes from informed French source [GFN France](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2015/west-ham-united-preparing-bid-for-ngolo-kante/), who go on to say Garande was speaking in a way which suggested that Kanté’s time in Normandy was almost up and he will leave the club soon.

Sphera Sports are reporting that Kanté has already agreed terms with the Hammers, who now need to agree a fee with Caen.

Keen to add a midfielder this summer with Alex Song’s permanent arrival from Barcelona delayed, Tottenham’s [Moussa Dembele is also being mentioned](https://readwestham.com/2015/07/28/west-ham-battle-everton-for-belgian-midfielder/) as a possible target.

The £5m-rated midfielder has been labelled the ‘new Makelele’ by some – hopefully he can back up those comments.
