West Ham’s move for Alex Song is hanging by a thread as the midfielder requires extreme ankle surgery, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 27-year-old is said to need a piece of bone removed from his leg, in order to help him recover from a serious ankle injury that he has sustained.
Song has already agreed terms with the East London club, but the type of deal that would bring him to Upton Park could be altered.
The Irons are reportedly adjusting their offer to having the option of signing the Cameroonian on a permanent deal next summer.
He spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Upton Park from Barcelona, and impressed fans with his man of the match performance in the 2-1 win over at the time champions Manchester City.
However, Song could still be absent from the opening weeks of the season as he recovers from the operation on the side-lines.
