Stuart Pearce, West Ham’s assistant manager, reportedly spent last weekend in Belgium watching the highly rated youngster Leander Dendoncker for a second time this season.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, Pearce was spotted in the stands of the Jan Breydel Stadium for Anderlecht’s 2-1 victory over Club Brugge.
Dendoncker was first scouted by the Hammers back in January, when he played at centre half against Genk and the Hammers attempted to snatch the highly rated star from the grasps of Manchester United, who were also very intrested in him at the time.
However, the London based outfit couldn’t raise the funds needed to capture Dendoncker so the deal fell apart on Transfer Deadline Day.
Recent reports from Het Nieuwsblad suggest that Mark Coucke (Anderlecht’s new owner) has promised Dendoncker a summer move in recognition of his services this past year.
Youri Tielemans was allowed to leave for Monaco last summer, but the club would not allow both superstars to leave at once, leaving Dendoncker’s path to West Ham blocked, until this summer at the earliest.
