On-loan West Ham midfielder Joao Mario has dropped the biggest hint yet over his future, insisting that Inter Milan are in his “past”.
As quoted by the Evening Standard, the Portugal international discussed what the future would hold for him once his loan deal at West Ham reaches its expiration.
Mario joined the Hammers on loan until the end of the season in the January transfer window. The ex-Sporting CP star started brightly under David Moyes but has since struggled to make an impression, with sections of the club’s fan-base lamenting his recent displays.

Whether or not West Ham will land Mario on a permanent basis remains to be seen, especially given the club’s precarious league position. If the Hammers get relegated to the Championship, the Euro 2016 winner is unlikely to fancy hanging around at the London Stadium.
Although, it seems his future will not lie in Italy with Inter, with Mario having this to say about his plans after the 2017/18 season:
I’m in a new league and I’m trying to adapt quickly. I’m happy with my new adventure and I hope to finish the season well. Inter are part of my past now. I could have played more, but football is about that too.
Now I’m happy and that’s what matters most.
