West Ham are unlikely to sign Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario on a permanent basis, with Inter already planning to sell him to a domestic rival this summer.
Gazzetta Dello Sport in Italy, as cited by Sport Witness, claim that Inter want to sign Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman this summer.
In order to push through a deal for the Roma midfielder, Inter will offer Mario as a makeweight, despite the player currently applying his trade on loan at West Ham.

The Hammers do have the option to sign the player permanently this summer but after failing to impress during his brief stint in London, that appears unlikely.
West Ham also have to prepare for the possibility of dropping into the Championship with David Moyes’ side sitting just two points above the drop zone.
Mario arrived on loan during the January window with much anticipation after impressing for Portugal in the past, but he has failed to live up to the billing in London.
