West Ham captain Mark Noble has defended the club’s warm weather training camp in Miami, saying it “isn’t a holiday.”
The Hammers decided to send some of the squad on a training camp trip to Miami this week and social media has been awash with pictures of players relaxing on a beach in Florida – despite the club’s precarious position in the Premier League.
The Hammers sit just three points and two places above the relegation zone, and were most recently hammered 3-0 against Burnley last weekend, prompting multiple pitch invasions and outrage amongst those in attendance.
However, Noble has defended the decision to get away, saying it was the right time for a training camp. Noble said;
I’ve been on loads of them [warm weather training camps].
I think they’re great me, just to change the scenery, train in a different location like this morning training was really hard and we had a lot of fun.
But we got the work done, especially at the right times.
West Ham don’t have a game until March 31, a six-pointer against fellow relegation battlers Southampton, and while fans where further incensed at seeing pictures of players on the beach, Noble promised fans his teammates were putting in the work. He continued;
Obviously we haven’t got a game for three weeks, the change of scenery.
You hear people say they’ve gone on holiday, believe me this isn’t a holiday the way we train.
