West Ham defender Jose Fonte has lauded the signing of left-back Patrice Evra.
The club announced earlier this week that Evra has joined the club on a deal until the end of the season.
Evra had been without a club since November, after he was sacked by Marseille following an altercation with a fan.
The Frenchman was being abused by a fan from the stands and responded by kicking the onlooker, resulting in his exit from Marseille.
He was also given a UEFA competitions ban until June 2018, though with West Ham not competing in Europe, the ban will not be an issue.
Speaking to West Ham’s official website, Fonte said this:
Patrice is a proven player, a very good professional and keeps himself fit, as we can all see and it’s good to have him in the team.
He’s going to help us massively, without a doubt. Age means nothing, so if you live life right and have the right mental attitude, like he does, you’ll be successful.
He still has a lot to offer, so well done to the Club on the signing.
Evra could make his debut for West Ham as they host Watford on Saturday, though it will likely take a few weeks for Evra to work his way back to full fitness.
