Oxford not considering early West Ham return
West Ham youngster Reece Oxford has no intention of cutting short his loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach.
The promising defender has not featured for the Bundesliga side since his move but is aiming to take his chance when it comes to him.
Oxford had a loan spell at Reading last season and looked to further his development out in Germany during this campaign. However, he has found chances hard to come by, prompting reports that he could seek an early return to London.
However, speaking to German news outlet Bild (via Goal), Oxford insisted that he isn’t looking to cut his loan short.
It’s true that I have the option to go back to West Ham prematurely, but I’m not looking for it, but I just want to play here at Borussia. I’m only focused on training and the possibility to play.
Oxford has been named on the shortlist for the 2017 FIFA Golden Boy award, and he also spoke of his pride to have been included in such a high-quality list.
I’ve played a lot of good international games last year, and it’s a great honor to be named in a breath with players like [Kylian] Mbappe or [Marcus] Rashford. I will work hard to get my chance here, and then I will use it.
The youngster is held in high regard at West Ham, but it doesn’t look as though he’s in a hurry to return to the club.
