West Ham United have confirmed that youngster George Dobson has left the club for Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam.

As per the club’s official website, Dobson leaves the Hammers for an undisclosed fee.

After spending the first half of last season on loan at League One side Walsall, Dobson is the latest in a growing trend of young English players moving to Holland in the search of regular first-team football.

Despite featuring 26 times for the League One side, Dobson returned to the Hammers for the second half of the season and featured heavily in the side’s U23s.

Sparta will be playing in the Eredivisie following their promotion to the Dutch top flight last season.

Arsenal’s Dan Crowley is set for a permanent move to Willem II, while Chelsea’s Muktar Ali is also thought to be considering a permanent summer switch to Vitesse.

The Eredivisie has long been seen a great pathway into senior football, with the average age of players lower and the style of football similar to that played at academy levels.
