West Ham United duo Josh Cullen and Reece Burke have had their loan moves to Bolton Wanderers put on hold as manager Slaven Bilic wants to take them on the pre-season tour to Austria and Germany as cover, according to a report on the Bolton News.
Bolton will have to potentially wait one month until the players join up with them for the new season. Both Burke and Cullen have already flown out for the training camps in Austria and Germany as Bilic wants them to train with the first team squad.
Bilic wants the duo to show him what they can do as he prepares to send them out on a season-long loan as deals which will see them join Bolton for the 2017/18 season have been agreed in principle.
Bolton manager Phil Parkinson was hoping to have the players earlier so they could work with their new team-mates in training and gain a better understanding of how each other play, but that is not possible now as both players get put through their paces with the Hammers.
Bolton are still first in line to take the players on loan after QPR registered their interest earlier in the summer. Burke spent last season on loan at Wigan Athletic and midfielder Cullen was on loan at Bradford City.
Centre-back Burke is keen to impress the manager while he is still with the West Ham squad.
“The manager has told me he wants me to do pre-season here with the first team, so it’s a good opportunity for me to get back in with the lads,” said Burke.
“I need to stay fit and have a good pre-season here, that’s my target.
“My ambition is to play in the Premier League and to do that you have to go on loan and get experience and, if I have to do that to develop, that’s what I’ll do.”
