West Ham linked with move to re-sign Sean Maguire
In January 2013, West Ham signed a talented teenage striker by the name of Sean Maguire from Irish side Waterford United.
Maguire impressed in the youth ranks at the club and spent time on loan with Sligo Rovers and Accrington Stanley before a decision was made to release the striker at the end of the 2014/15 season.
The Ireland U21 international returned with Ireland with Dundalk before leaving to join Cork City on a free transfer in January 2016 where he has really hit his stride.
Last season, Maguire netted 18 goals in 30 appearances in the League of Ireland and already has 11 in 16 appearances across all competitions this term.
It’s understood that the Hammers are keeping tabs on his progress and are weighing up a move to re-sign the striker in the summer, but face competition from Celtic and Preston North End for the 22-year-old.
There is a release clause in Maguire’s contract that allows him to leave if an offer of £150,000 comes in for him, but his current deal is due to expire at the end of the current League of Ireland season and will become a free agent in the winter.
Whether the Hammers chose to make their move this summer remains to be seen.
