West Ham enter race to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson
The search for a Dimitri Payet replacement was delayed until the summer as David’s Gold and Sullivan opted to hold their cash for a big splurge at the end of the season.
One of the players they did target in the January transfer window to replace the Frenchman was Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, but the relegation-threatened side from south Wales rebuffed the attempt while the Icelandic attacker remained committed to the cause.
The Mirror report that the Hammers will go in again for Sigurdsson at the end of the season as they look to fill the Payet-shaped hole in the squad, but they will face competition from Everton.
Swansea turned down a £35m offer from China for the 27-year-old in January which may be the benchmark for offers in the summer unless the attacking midfielder requests a transfer.
Alternatively, if the Swansea are relegated, expect that asking price to drop severely.
Sigurdsson is the Premier League’s top assister this season with 11 and has also contributed nine goals, an end product that the Hammers could desperately do with.
