West Ham’s failure to sign a striker this season has come back to bite them on several occasions this campaign. The reluctancy to pay big money for a star man, combined with the injuries to fellow frontmen Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho, has left man supporters disappointed so far at the London Stadium.
We’ve seen clubs such as Crystal Palace and Southampton spend rather large amounts of money on the likes of Christian Benteke and Manolo Gabbiadini. Simone Zaza was not the answer to our goal-scoring problems, hence why his loan deal was cut short to avoid paying a large permanent fee.
However, this summer will prove to be a massive transfer window for the Hammers. If the chairmen are serious about pushing for regular European nights in East London, then there is pressure on the board to spend big. So, here are five strikers that West Ham should consider buying in the summer.
Andrea Belotti
Belotti has taken Serie A by a storm this season, with 19 goals in 23 appearances for Torino thus far. He is also fantastic in the air, which suits West Ham’s style of play perfectly.
Iago Aspas
Although Aspas struggled to adapt to Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool team, he has since returned to Spain and is in brilliant form for Celta Vigo. Only Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez have more goals than Aspas in La Liga this campaign.
Andre Silva
Andre Silva would be a terrific purchase for West Ham United. At just 21 years of age, the Porto forward has four goals in seven Champions League games and is the 2nd top scorer in Liga NOS.
Mauro Icardi
After threatening to kill some of his own fans, it is difficult to foresee a future for Mauro Icardi at Inter Milan. With 16 goals in Italy this season, he would most certainly be a lethal scorer in English football.
Alexandre Lacazette
Well, we’ve been here before. But if West Ham are going to be taken seriously, then they have to at least attempt to sign the biggest names in Europe. Lacazette has 22 goals in Ligue 1 in 2016/17 and has already stated his intentions of leaving France.
