West Ham had two bids rejected by Saint-Etienne for defender Kevin Malcuit in January, according to reports.

The Hammers were clearly in the market for a right-back with their current options wither suffering from injury or poor form but they couldn’t get a deal done.

According to the report, the Hammers made bids of €8million and €10million but the Ligue 1 side were not willing to part with the 25-year-old.

Malcuit is under contract with Saint-Etienne until 2019 so the French side have no reason to sell him unless they get offered a deal that’s too good to turn down and as such, West Ham might need to either substantially increase their bid or look elsewhere for a new right-back this summer.

The full-back has played 18 games for Saint-Etienne this year and West Ham fans can get a closer look at him this week when he faces Manchester United on TV in the Europa League.
