West Ham target Lukasz Skorupski to leave if Szczesny signs
The goalkeeper has been a problem position for West Ham this season.
Adrian started out as the incumbent No.1, but a run of poor form saw him dropped and replaced by Darren Randolph who has impressed since entering the lineup, but that doesn’t mean Slaven Bilic is content with his options between the sticks.
With Adrian’s contract up at the end of the season and no new talks on the horizon, the search is on to find a replacement to compete with Randolph and the Hammers reportedly have their eyes on Roma loanee Lukasz Skorupski.
The 25-year-old Poland international stopper is currently 18 months into a two-year loan spell with fellow Serie A side Empoli where he has impressed, especially this term with nine clean sheets in 18 league games, but his future with Roma remains uncertain.
Roma currently have Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in on loan for the second successive season and it’s believed they’re keen on signing him on a permanent basis.
Speaking to Polish source Sportowefakty (h/t Inside Futbol), Skorupski has revealed that he will look to move elsewhere if they sign Szczesny permanently so he can have a chance to play.
“If they buy him then my future will not be at Roma and I have to take another road.
“I want to play and grow and don’t want to return to the bench.”It is not the ideal scenario for a player and with respect to Roma, I would like to join a club who give me a chance to play.
“And from what I have seen in recent games, Szczesny is experiencing the best form of his life.”
Should Szczesny make his stay in Rome permanent, that could pave the way for the Hammers to make their move for Skorupski in the summer.
