Marseille priced out of a move for Dimitri Payet?
Dimitri Payet wants out. That much we do know. What we don’t know is whether that will materialise over the next fortnight before the January transfer window closes.
Marseille have had two bids knocked back already for the 29-year-old playmaker, the most recent one worth £20m say Sky Sports after talks between the Ligue 1 club and West Ham representatives on Monday took place in London.
Payet, who joined the Hammers from Marseille in July 2015, wants to return to his former club for the sake of his unsettled family who have already fled England back across the Channel without him.
He’s handed in a transfer request but Slaven Bilic, David Gold and David Sullivan are all on the same page (publicly, anyway) that Payet will not be sold this month as they look to persuade their most important asset to stay at the club.
West Ham are believed to have put a £35m price tag on Payet’s shoulders this month and according to the Daily Mail, they think they’ve priced Marseille out of a move for their former star.
Bilic has banished Payet from first-team training until his attitude changes and today the Frenchman reported to training with the Development Squad at Rush Green this morning and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
It remains to be seen if Payet will get his wish and leave West Ham this month considering the club’s stance.
