Carroll sides with West Ham in Payet dispute
West Ham United striker says no one is bigger than a club following the dispute involving Dimitri Payet.
As reported by Sky Sports, Carroll, who was speaking following his side’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace admits that the squad are a close group, hinting that they wouldn’t be affected by what is happening with their star man.
Carroll said:
I don’t think any player is bigger than the club. That’s what the lads believe, the manager, all the staff and the fans. We showed we’re a tight group and got three points for it.
The England international scored a spectacular bicycle kick against Palace on Saturday and says it’s been a tough time for the club.
We have answered a few of the critics, with everything that has been going in during the week and everyone talking. I have received a lot of calls and messages and it has been the same for the other players. It has been tough, especially as the lads are close to one another.
Payet told the Hammers he is refusing to play for the club as he seeks a transfer away from the London Stadium.
Following their dip in form, the Frenchman has had enough as he seeks to end his brief, but eventful stay in the Premier League.
Payet has been linked with a return to Marseille, but the Hammers are set to demand at least £35 million for the player, despite Slaven Bilic admitting that they will not sell the player.
