West Ham linked with Daniel Sturridge move
West Ham, Sunderland and Stoke are all interested in making January moves for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge according to Calciomercato.
The Hammers’ striker woes are well-documented. Loan-to-buy arrival Simone Zaza has not hit the ground running and doesn’t look like scoring anytime soon, and the same can be said about his on-loan team-mate Jonathan Calleri.
Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew are all on the sidelines injured for the time being as well, leaving Ashley Fletcher as the only other alternative in attack.
As for Sturridge, he could be on his way out of Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp deems him surplus to requirements. He’s started just three of six Premier League games this term and seems to be behind Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino in the pecking order.
Injuries are a frequent part of the 27-year-old’s recent history. Hampered by hamstring and hip injuries over the last two seasons, Sturridge has featured in just 26 of a possible 76 matches for the Reds.
However, his goal return is still one of the best around. In 98 appearances for Liverpool, Sturridge has found the net on 56 occasions, assisting in 20 goals as well and was a driving force behind their title-challenging 2013/14 campaign.
The 22-time England international is under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2019 and it’s not out of the question to suggest that he could seek a move away if he’s not given first-team assurances or even a new contract.
Whether he’d be in West Ham’s price-range remains to be seen, but the last thing we need is another injury-prone striker to join our ranks.
