Not for the first time and surely won’t be the last, Dimitri Payet bailed West Ham out with a stunning 96th-minute free kick to see the Hammers into the next round of the EFL Cup.

In a game that should’ve been a formality – Premier League opposition at home to a League 2 outfit – turned out to be a much tougher test than anticipated despite a strong side fielded by Slaven Bilic.

Nevertheless, the Hammers came away 1-0 winners and have been handed a home draw against Chelsea in the fourth round.

Accrington Stanley played their part last night and were more than a match for the Hammers and could’ve snuck a goal themselves if it weren’t for Darren Randolph.

However, Dimitri Payet ended their hopes of progressing to the EFL Cup fourth round for the very first time, and they’ve taken to Twitter to vocalise their thoughts.

Stanley have changed their Twitter bio to say: “Not currently the world’s biggest fans of Dimitri Payet” following his last-gasp winner.

All in good faith, it’s good to see that Stanley have seen the lighter side of proceedings.
