FC Sion midfielder Edimilson Fernandes is currently on his way to London to complete a medical with West Ham, according to Ed Aarons of the Guardian.

It’s believed a fee in the region of £5.2m has been agreed with the Swiss club for the transfer of Fernandes who should complete his move in the next few days.

Edimilson, the cousin of former Manchester City and Leicester midfielder Gelson Fernandes, is a 20-year-old midfielder who featured for Switzerland U21s in a European U21 Championships qualifier against England back in March.

He’s already made five appearances for Sion this season in Swiss football, coming off a very strong season in 2015/16 where he made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and tallying seven assists, his best single-season totals in each of those categories in his career.

Fernandes is a forward-thinking central midfielder who can also operate in a more advanced role or on the right of midfield.

His arrival could spell the end for Pedro Obiang, who has been linked with a £7.7m move back to Serie A with AC Milan, Fiorentina and Torino all interested in signing the Spaniard who only joined the Hammers from Sampdoria last summer in a £5.1m deal.
