Earlier this month, West Ham agreed a deal with Calleri’s parent club Deportivo Maldonado to sign the Argentine striker on a season-long loan pending a successful work permit hearing according to Jack Sullivan.
Maldonado signed Calleri from Boca Juniors in January and immediately loaned him to Sao Paulo where he scored 16 goals in 31 appearances and was the top scorer in the Copa Libertadores.
Merlo states above: “Despite interest from Barcelona, Jonathan Calleri will play at West Ham on loan for 1 year and with option (to buy)“.
West Ham are expected to receive a work permit for Calleri soon and the deal will be completed.
