Arsenal set to rival West Ham in chase for Mandzukic
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are going to rival West Ham for the signing of Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic.
Gonzalo Higuain’s arrival at Juve has resulted in the Serie A champions reevaluating their current forward options. They currently have six first team strikers on the books, and at least two look likely to leave the club this summer.
Juve are apparently open to selling the player as he’s seen as a backup option, but he could remain in Turin with reports that Simone Zaza is the striker most likely to leave this summer.
Although he originally wanted to stay at Juve, the Gunners’ interest in him has reportedly turned the 30-year old’s head and he would quite fancy a move to the Emirates.
As a result, it is likely that Mandzukic’s own desire will prove pivotal in whether the transfer is viable and where he will play come the start of next season, although Juventus value of the player, €20 million, might be a stumbling block.
Arsenal may not be prepared to meet that fee, although West Ham could be prepared to do so.
Mandzukic made 27 Serie A appearances for the Old Lady last campaign, netting a total of 10 goals.
