No Besiktas move for West Ham target Mario Gomez
West Ham target Mario Gomez has confirmed that he is leaving Turkish champions Besiktas this summer.
Gomez was on loan to Besiktas last season, scoring 28 goals in all competitions for the Turkish side. He was a massive hit and endeared himself to the locals, with many calling for a permanent move.
Yet, Gomez has now announced that he will not be returning for next season, and will go back to Fiorentina for pre-season. Although, he is still expected to leave the Serie A club this summer.
Gomez said this about his future, as quoted by Turkish Football.com:
The reason for this is completely down to the political situation.
There are no sporting or any other reasons that have made me make this decision. It is purely down to the terrible events that happened in the last few days.
This will come as good news to West Ham, who are thought to be very keen on the prolific centre forward. It means that they have one less competitor for his signature.
Gomez has had a fantastic career, having scored 263 career goals in just 458 matches. This includes 113 goals in 173 matches for Bayern Munich over a four year spell.
