West Ham offer Pedro Obiang to Cagliari

West Ham have offered midfielder Pedro Obiang a return to Italy with Cagliari, according to Calciomercato.

Obiang wants to stay and fight for his place in the first team, according to what he says on Twitter, but whether he’ll get the chance to do so remains to be seen.

It’s understood that the Hammers have offered the 24-year-old a return to Italian football with Cagliari who are looking to bolster their midfielder following their promotion to Serie A.

The Spaniard signed for the Hammers last summer from Serie A side Sampdoria for a fee in the region of £5.1m and made 30 appearances for the club last season, only 16 of which were starts.

Having started his career with Atletico Madrid, the Spanish midfielder to Sampdoria in 2008 and spent his entire professional career in Italian football before making the move to the Premier League last summer.

Another Serie A side, Napoli, made an approach for Obiang this summer but have yet to follow up on their initial interest.

While West Ham may not be ‘actively’ looking to sell the industrious midfielder this summer, they’d likely consider a sale if they receive an attractive offer – much like they did with James Tomkins who’s left for Crystal Palace in a £10m deal.
