Hammers progress to knockout rounds in France
Dimitri Payet, Angelo Ogbonna, James Collins and Darren Randolph have now all progressed to the next stage of EURO 2016 following the Republic of Ireland’s dramatic victory over Italy. In the fixture that saw fellow Hammers Ogbonna and Randolph’s compete against one another, Robbie Brady’s winner ensured all four West Ham men will reach the European Championship’s Round of 16.
Arguably the player of the tournament so far, Payet was instrumental for France during the group stage fixtures. His two goals, earning him two man of the match performances, helped the host nation top Group A. France will now face Randolph’s Ireland, in Lyon on Sunday. The Irish first-choice keeper’ has played every minute for his nation at this summer’s tournament so far.
Ogbonna’s Italy will play in a mouth-watering clash against reigning European champions Spain. Angelo has only featured once in France but will be hoping to retain his place in the Italian side ahead of Monday’s fixture.
Collins is yet to represent his respective country at the tournament ; Wales won Group B to set up an all British tie with Northern Ireland on Saturday.
