Arsenal, Barcelona linked with Payet move

Arsenal and Barcelona have joined Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea in the race to sign West Ham attacker Dimitri Payet this summer.

According to the IBTimes, both Arsenal and Barcelona have been eyeing moves for Dimitri Payet following his stunning debut season with the Hammers, but Slaven Bilic is not interested in selling as per his column in the Daily Mail.

Some will say it is a double-edged sword for West Ham and myself, and that if Dimitri continues to play like that there will be other big clubs circling. I don’t think about that though. After that, what happens, happens, but we know he is happy at West Ham. I don’t think that his performances will encourage a club bigger than us to try and get him — I just enjoy his football and I am glad for him.

Payet was given the nod by Didier Deschamps to start France’s Euro 2016 opener against Romania and boy did he deliver, scoring an 89th minute winner from 25-yards to hand the French a 2-1 victory.

Barcelona are believed to have been tracking Payet since April and are weighing up a summer move for the player who recently signed a new five-year deal with the Hammers worth £120,000-a-week.

West Ham, however, are determined to keep Payet insisting he is not for sale at any price this summer. The man who they value at £60m has also been linked with Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Champions League winners Real Madrid are understood to have lodged a £40m bid to sign the 29-year-old attacking midfielder this summer as well as offering him an improved contract but the Hammers are refusing to budge on their not-for-sale stance.
