West Ham target Mendy reportedly agrees terms with Leicester

West Ham have been dealt a transfer blow this week after it’s been reported that Nampalys Mendy has agreed terms to a move to Leicester City.

The Hammers had been interested in the OGC Nice midfielder this summer, as were Sunderland, but reports in France claim that the Premier League champions are closing in on his signature.

According to RMC, Leicester have already agreed personal terms with the player, who is seen as N’Golo Kante’s potential replacement should he leave the King Power Stadium this summer having been linked with the likes of Juventus, Chelsea and Arsenal.

This time last year, West Ham and Leicester were also vying for a central midfielder based in France. Caen’s N’Golo Kante. Despite agreeing personal terms with the Hammers, Kante’s move to East London never materialised as the two clubs couldn’t agree a fee. Leicester stepped in and stole the now French international from under their noses and haven’t looked back.

Could West Ham do the same this summer with Mendy? RMC state that Leicester’s current offer is worth €10m but talks are still ongoing, with Nice looking for nearer €16m to sell their star man.

Slaven Bilic’s side have been linked with a number of midfielders of late as they look to bolster their squad ahead of a busier campaign next season fighting on both a domestic and European front, and the 23-year-old Mendy is high on his list.
