West Ham confirm the signing of promising youngster
West Ham have announced the signing of former Chelsea and Benfica youngster Domingos Quina.
The Hammers announced, via their official website, that Quina, who spent time at Chelsea on trial but never officially signed a contract there, had joined after personally meeting manager Slaven Bilic.
Quina will join the club on a two-year scholarship deal, but has already agreed terms for a professional deal, ready for when he turns 17 in November.
The 16-year-old is one of the most highly rated youngsters in Europe and has just lifted the U17s European championship with his native Portugal. The youngster spent time at the club before the championships, training and meeting the staff.
Quina had attracted the interest of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United after turning down a contract at Chelsea, due to lack of chances in the first-team squad.
West Ham’s Academy Director and Head of Player Coaching and Development Terry Westley believes the signing shows the sort of player West Ham can attract.
Attracting a player of Domingos’s quality and potential to the Club is recognition of the stature with which the West Ham United Academy is held. Domingos spent a month training with us before heading to the European Championship finals and he has seen what we are all about, the way we work and the pathway and plans we put in place for our young players. Domingos is an exciting young player and he has seen that we can help him to develop and make the most of his many talents at West Ham United. He wants to come on our journey the same as the likes of Martin Samuelsen, Reece Oxford and Reece Burke see their futures here.
