West Ham’s brilliant and remarkable season is nearing its end. With just four games remaining West Ham sit in sixth and will be hoping to bring Europa League football to the Olympic Stadium. Liverpool and Southampton are hot on the Hammers’ heels and could put our Europa League ambitions in doubt. Unfortunately, it is now looking unlikely that the Irons will reach a Champions League qualifying position.
With Man City winning the League Cup they have a spot in next season Europa League. if they qualify through for Europe through league position then it opens up a lot of possibilities. We take a look at the possible league finishes that would ensure Europa League football next season for West Ham and the clauses that go with them:
If West Ham finish fifth then they will definitely qualify for the Europa League.
If West Ham finish sixth and Man City finish in the top four then West Ham will definitely qualify for the Europa League third round.
If West Ham finish seventh and Man United win the FA Cup and finish in the top six and Man City finish in the top five then West Ham will definitely qualify for the Europa League.
If West Ham finish eighth and Liverpool win the Europa League and finish seventh in the Premier League, Manchester United win the FA Cup and finish in the top six in the Premier League and Manchester City qualify for the Champions League then West Ham will definitely qualify for the Europa League.
Teams can no longer qualify through the Fair Play League, like how West Ham did last season, however if were still in existence I highly doubt the Hammers would be anywhere near the top.
So there we have it. Hopefully, we will finish fifth or sixth otherwise, as Slaven Bilic said mid-week, we will all be Man United fans come the end of the season. And no one wants that!
