West Ham and Tottenham chase AFC Wimbledon defender
Both West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing 18-year-old defender Ryan Sweeney from AFC Wimbledon, according to a report from Darren Witcoop of The Mirror.
The young Irishman has been scouted by both clubs having broken into the League Two club’s first team, and despite the fact that he’s only made eight appearances this season, it appears that both Premier League sides are keen to sign him.
As well as the two top-flight London sides, there is interest in Sweeney from Championship sides Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town are also interested in him, and both would likely offer him more regular playing time that he’d get in the Premier League.
Of course, he could easily be signed by a top-flight side and loaned out, which would benefit all parties concerned.
Sweeney has been with AFC Wimbledon since he was eight-years-old and they’d be sad to see him leave. However, if he does move on, they’ll be looking for the best possible financial deal for the club.
