West Ham are interested in bringing Arsenal’s veteran midfielder Mikel Arteta to the club, according to reports in Spain.
The 33-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and it is highly unlikely that Arsenal will offer him a new deal, although there has been talk of him becoming a coach at the Gunners, so he could theoretically be offered a Player/Coach role.
However, according to the report, West Ham are willing to offer the Spaniard a two-year contract, which would allow Arteta to continue to play in the Premier League for another couple of seasons before he makes what seems like an inevitable switch into coaching.
Arteta has struggled with injury this season, but he did play for around 20 minutes in the FA Cup third round win over Sunderland at the weekend.
It seems unlikely that Arteta would leave Arsenal in the current transfer window, but he will become a free agent in the summer, and if the reports in Spain are true, he could be tempted by West Ham’s offer of a two-year deal.
