Former Southampton winger on trial at West Ham

West Ham United have accidentally revealed, on their official Twitter account, that they have taken former Southampton youngster Omar Rowe on trial.

The 20-year-old was down as an unnamed ‘trialist’ on the team sheet ahead of the game, but the blooper has now revealed his identity.

Hackney-born Rowe was formerly a part of West Ham’s academy, but moved to Southampton at under-16 level – where he spent four years.

After progressing through the youth ranks and signing his first professional contract in July 2013, Rowe was handed his competitive debut in a League Cup match against Barnsley – coming on as a 72nd-minute substitute. He went on to make just one more appearance for the Saints before being released this summer – yet another League Cup appearance.

Rowe was an integral part of Southampton’s under-21 side, before departing this summer, but failed to progress any further due to stiff competition for a spot in the first-team.
