After a disappointing weekend for West Ham, the club was graced with some positive news on Sunday night as Steve Bruce has told BBC Humberside that he is ‘powerless’ in the Tom Huddlestone transfer saga and has hinted at a departure for the former England international. Speaking to reporters, the former Manchester United centre-back said:
“I am sure West Ham, like anybody, knows he has a buy-out in his contract and if they get to that figure I am powerless.”
The buy-out clause of the central midfield player is believed to be in the region of £5.5 million and Slaven Bilic could be tempted to bolster his midfield options. Huddlestone is an outstanding passer of the ball but possesses the physical prowess to be effective in close games.
The Hammers have already signed the likes of Pedro Obiang this summer to boost the midfield, but Huddlestone offers something different and he would be effective from set piece opportunities as he has a good delivery.
A deal could be coming soon as Steve Bruce admits agents are ‘touting him around’, and he will be an in demand player due to his Premiership experience.
What is certain, is that the Irons will face competition if they want their man.
