West Ham have suffered a crushing blow in their efforts to sign Italian international striker Mattia Destro this summer.
According to Italian source Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Monaco have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of the AS Roma forward this week.
A proposed move earlier this summer collapsed last month, paving the way for West Ham to sign the 24-year-old, and a report yesterday claimed that the Hammers were set to complete the signing of Destro on a season-long loan this week.
However, it now appears that AS Monaco have revived their bid for the striker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan, scoring three goals in 15 games, but has 29 in 69 appearances for AS Roma.
A £10.7m permanent transfer has reportedly been agreed, with Destro expected in Monaco tomorrow to discuss personal terms. A decision is expected to be made by the player by the weekend.
West Ham are wasting no time in identifying other targets, and have been handed a major boost in their efforts to sign Emmanuel Adebayor from Tottenham.
