The 28-year-old can operate on either wing as well as an attacking midfielder, and has spent his entire footballing career in France.
Capped 15 times by his country, Payet has spent the last two seasons at Marseille following a move fro Lille in 2013.
Last season, Payet scored seven goals and contributed 17 assists in Ligue 1 – most in the division, and has also made the most assists in Ligue 1 since 2006 with 65.
Marseille have reluctantly sold their star man for a fee in the region of £10.7m, plus performance-based add ons, following a contract dispute.
Payet will join up with the squad soon, but will not feature in either fixture against FC Lusitans in the Europa League first qualifying round.
