West Ham are closing in on the signing of AS Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, claims Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio.
It was reported yesterday that the Hammers, along with Liverpool, had opened talks with the wealthy Ligue 1 club about a possible move for their star defender, but it now seems those talks have progressed well, and a bid has been made.
Di Marzio claims that West Ham have offered €18m for the 25-year-old centre-back, just shy of Monaco’s €20m valuation of the player. Foot Mercato had reported yesterday that Newcastle had submitted a bid of €17m for the player.
Juventus and AC Milan have both also made undisclosed bids for the player, while Inter Milan, AS Roma and Napoli are all monitoring the situation and are considering moves.
Abdennour is ‘one step away’ from signing with West Ham, and the player would prefer a move to London and the Premier League over a switch to the Serie A and Italy.
