Marseille have rejected claims that West Ham have lodged a €20m bid from West Ham for attacker Dimitri Payet, reports La Provence.
In a report from GFN France quoting La Provence, the Ligue 1 side have already rejected offers of €7m and €13m from West Ham this summer, but have denied the latest reports suggesting that the club have made an improved €20m bid, as do Payet’s representatives.
It was reported by British media that the Hammers had made a £14m offer (approx €20m) for Payet last week, which was set to be accepted with the player to eventually sign for the club, but it seems those claims were far from the truth.
Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa is determined to keep hold of the player, who is demanding a new and improved contract from the club in order to stay in France, with Payet meeting with club president Vincent Labrune today to discuss improved terms.
West Ham are lining up a move for Payet’s team-mate, Florian Thauvin, as a bid of €11.9m was lodged today for the 22-year-old France U21 international winger.
