West Ham have made a £14m bid to sign Dimitri Payet from Marseille, writes Jason Burt of The Telegraph.
It’s believed that the Ligue 1 side have rejected a £12m bid already from the Hammers this summer, but Slaven Bilic is determined to land his man, and has submitted a better offer.
The 28-year-old has nine international caps for France, and was the top assister in Ligue 1 last season with 17 while also scoring seven times..
Able to play on the wing or behind the striker, Payet has also been linked with a move to Newcastle and Everton, but the fact that West Ham have secured Europa League football next season would give them the edge in any potential deal.
The player suffered an automatic wage drop this summer due to the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, which has angered the player, but the Hammers are ready to offer a great deal in order to persuade him to join.
Football agent and friend of Slaven Bilic, Muzzi Ozcan, says Dimitri Payet wants to move to West Ham, but it’s down to the Hammers agreeing a fee with Marseille.
