West Ham are in pole position to sign Charlie Austin from QPR, reports the Daily Star.
The recently called-up England striker scored 18 league goals last season as QPR were relegated back to the Championship.
He’s been widely tipped with a £15m move back to the Premier League, with Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool all said to be interested in the player.
West Ham entered the race to sign Austin last week, as they look to add to their depth in the attacking areas.
However, it’s now being reported that the Hammers are leading the race to sign Austin this summer, as the 25-year-old becomes one of the nations hottest properties.
The Express are reporting that we have opened talks with Austin about a £15m move.
Both Chelsea and Newcastle are monitoring the situation, but have singled out other targets as contingency plans.
The Blues look set to bring in Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao on loan from AS Monaco, whereas the Toon are reportedly keen on signing highly-rated striker Bas Dost from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
