West Ham have agreed a fee for Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang, according to Italian sports journalist Alfredo Pedulla.
The Spaniard has been a standout player for the Serie A side for a number of seasons, after joining for a nominal fee as a youngster from the Atletico Madrid academy.
The athletic 23-year-old has scored three goals in 32 appearances in Italy this season playing in a box-to-box role, and is seen as the ideal replacement for the departing Alex Song.
West Ham have no interest in stumping up a double-figure fee for the on-loan Barcelona midfielder, not to mention the wages, which are currently in the region of £140,000-a-week.
Pedulla has previously reported that the Hammers were edging closer to a deal with Sampdoria for Obiang’s transfer, with the club prepared to pay €6.5m, whereas Sampdoria wanted €8m in order to let him go.
It appears the two clubs have come an agreement, and personal terms will now be discussed.
